Young Sheldon: “A Strudel and a Hot American Boy Toy” Starting in primetime and going into tomorrow morning are films whose directors won Oscars: The Quiet Man (1952, John Ford), Giant (1956, George Stevens), All Quiet on the Western Front (1930, Lewis Milestone) and The Divine Lady (1929, Frank Lloyd). Turner Classic Movies’ 31 Days of Oscar event continues this morning and into the early evening with a lineup featuring films helmed by people who won or were nominated for Best Director Oscars: Anna Christie (1930, nomination for Clarence Brown) Lady for a Day (1933, nomination for Frank Capra) The Southerner (1945, nomination for Jean Renoir) Bad Day at Black Rock (1955, nomination for John Sturges) The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948, win for John Huston) Never on Sunday (1960, nomination for Jules Dassin) Witness for the Prosecution (1957, nomination for Billy Wilder) and Midnight in Paris (2011, nomination for Woody Allen), making its TCM premiere. Season 2 takes place in Ireland, with Dornan and costar Danielle Macdonald returning. The first installment (currently streaming on Netflix) followed an Irish man (Jamie Dornan) who woke up with amnesia in an Australian hospital and had to discover his identity before his past caught up with him. This Australian thriller moves to Netflix in the U.S. These and other interconnected stories set off a transformative chain reaction in the city. Meanwhile, amid Atlanta’s global Olympic spotlight, eventual mayor Robert Dawn’s (Donovan Christie Jr.) rise to power comes at the price of personal sacrifices and moral dilemmas. Adulthood disrupts their lives, pulling Paige, her long-term boyfriend Malcolm (Malcolm Xavier) and newcomer Romeo (West Montez) into a series of challenges. Paige (Ava Mone’t), a promising Spelman sophomore, veers off her path to success when she falls for a “bad boy” just before the pivotal “Freaknik” event. This four-episode series set in 1990s Atlanta unfolds a complex web of personal stories. Star Carrie Preston plays the astute but unconventional attorney who, after her successful career in Chicago, uses her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD. ![]() The Good Wife is branching out in another spinoff that follows character Elsbeth Tascioni.
